Technical Details
Because the warehouse is located in a harbour area, special approvals had to be obtained from different authorities. All in all, amongst others, approx. 3,000 metres (1.8 miles) of steel rope and 12,000 m² (129,166 Sq Ft) of glass fabric were used for the ceiling. Because of the lightweight construction, the maximum roof load of the warehouse is not exceeded.
People involved in the project
Site measuring for the complex supporting steel rope structure was performed by a surveyor's office.
The structural analysis and planning of the supporting structure was performed by Statik Ryklin - Master Membrane Structures.
Overall planning, manufacturing of the glass fabric ceiling and mounting of the intermediate ceiling was carried out by Planex. Project manager Gerhard Dörr from Planex (see photo) coordinated the teamwork of designers, structural engineers, sprinkler companies, and lighting companies.
